A group of aspiring young creatives received the surprise of a lifetime when Michelle Obama and Tems made an unexpected appearance during a songwriting workshop at the newly opened Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

The intimate session brought together teenage girls from local youth programs and members of the Girls Opportunity Alliance network, where they explored songwriting, poetry, and storytelling as vehicles for self-expression and empowerment.

The excitement reached new heights when Grammy-winning star Tems joined the workshop. The Nigerian singer-songwriter shared insights from her own journey. She also highlighted her Leading Vibe Initiative, which supports young women seeking careers across the music industry.

As if that wasn’t enough, the former First Lady later surprised the group, listening to presentations of the students’ original work and applauding their creativity.

This comes on the heels of the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, and this event serves as an early example of its commitment to nurturing further leaders.
