Michael Jackson is proving to be just as dominant at the box office as he is on the charts.

The King of Pop’s blockbuster biopic ‘Michael’ has officially danced beyond the half-billion-dollar mark worldwide, cementing itself as one of the biggest music movies in history.

According to early box office estimates, the Lionsgate release is set to close the weekend with a staggering $570 million globally after just three weeks in theaters.

The Jaafar Jackson-led film is also showing serious staying power on home soil. For, the movie pulled in another huge $36.5 million across Mother’s Day weekend alone, bringing its North American total to over $240 million.

Even more impressively, ‘Michael’ has already surpassed the entire US box office run of Queen biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ which famously finished with $216 million stateside.

‘Michael’ has now become the second music biopic in history to gross $500 million at the global box office – bested only by ‘Rhapsody’s $911 Million finish globally.

The massive success has sparked renewed interest in Jackson’s catalog, too, with albums like ‘The Essential Michael Jackson,’ ‘Thriller,’ and ‘Bad’ all surging back up streaming and charts globally.

At this rate, the film’s march toward the $1 billion mark no longer seems impossible.
