Michael Jackson‘s box office dominance is proving just as potent as his chart reign.

According to new box office figures, ‘Michael’ has moonwalked to more than $900 million worldwide at the box office, including approximately $355 million domestically Stateside and over $544 million internationally.

The film has been a powerhouse across the globe, with particularly strong performances in the UK, France, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Italy, and Spain.

Now, the Lionsgate release is just $11 million away from surpassing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’‘s $911 million global total.

Should it pull off the feat, ‘Michael’ – which is led by MJ’s nephew Jaafar Jackson – will become the highest-grossing music biopic in cinematic history.

The milestone adds to an already remarkable run for the flick, which has sparked renewed interest in Jackson’s legendary catalog.

As reported, several of the superstar’s classic albums have enjoyed significant chart gains in the wake of the movie’s release, introducing his music to a new generation while reigniting enthusiasm among longtime fans.

With the film still rolling out in additional territories and a release in Russia arriving this week, industry watchers are now eyeing the possibility of the movie becoming the first musical biopic ever to cross the coveted $1 billion mark.
