There’s a new Storm brewing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Maya Boyd has officially been cast as the weather-wielding mutant Storm in Marvel Studios’ hotly anticipated ‘X-Men’ reboot.

The major casting announcement sees the actress inherit one of the franchise’s most iconic roles as the beloved team of mutants prepares to formally enter the MCU.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed the news at D23 last night (August 14), with Variety reporting that Boyd will bring Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm, to life when the new ‘X-Men’ movie arrives on May 5, 2028.

She follows Halle Berry, who first brought Storm to the big screen in 2000, and Alexandra Shipp, who later took over as a younger incarnation of the powerful mutant. Berry previously confirmed she would not be returning as Storm for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

The coveted part has long generated plenty of conversation. Indeed, Chloe Bailey previously revealed that playing Storm was among her Marvel ambitions.

Boyd will be joined by Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, and Adam Driver as villain Mr. Sinister.

With the MCU’s mutant era officially taking shape, all eyes will undoubtedly be on how Boyd makes the mighty Mistress of the Elements her own.
