Russ is opening up. The multi-platinum artist dropped ‘HELL,’ a vulnerable new track that explores the psychological battle of navigating distance in a relationship.

Full story below…The song samples TikTok vocalist Alanna Iman, who performed a cover of Ella Langley’s ‘Choosin Texas.’ Russ turned her emotional vocals into a haunting loop.

He explained the creative process in a statement. Russ said:

“I found an emerging artist on TikTok, Alanna Iman. She posted a cover of ‘Choosin Texas,’ and it was insane and I knew I had to sample it. Kept her melody and changed the words to make it sound like she was almost singing backup vocals.”

The track unpacks the push-pull between wanting closeness and needing space. Russ confronts anxiety, shame cycles, and the weight of distance. He opens lines such as “Can you text me? This is hell by the way, I’m too desperate, I need you.”

Russ wrote, produced, mixed, and sampled the track himself. The song is part of the deluxe rollout for The Elephant & The Rider, which he is releasing one song at a time.

He added:

“The song is about the psychological free fall that happens when someone you love asks for space.”
