Lionel Richie was transported to a hospital after falling ill on stage, forcing the 77-year-old singer to cut short the opening night of his ‘Sing A Song All Night Long’ tour with fellow music legends Earth, Wind & Fire .

The incident occurred on Wednesday night (June 24) at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota. Roughly 55 minutes into his set, Richie told the audience he felt “dizzy” and “strange” while performing his 1986 hit ‘Dancing on the Ceiling.’

He sat down on a stage platform and joked with the crowd about his condition.

Richie told the audience:

“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a** down. That’s the first time in the history of ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ I’ve done it sitting down. That’s a bad sign.”

He managed to perform one more song, ‘Three Times a Lady,’ at the piano. However, he then called for an impromptu intermission and exited the stage. His band remained onstage for about 15 minutes before also leaving.

Saxophonist Dino Soldo later returned to inform the crowd:

“Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”

Sources told TMZ that paramedics met Richie backstage and transported him to a hospital as a precautionary measure . His current condition remains unclear.

The next show is scheduled for Friday (June 26) in Chicago, but the status of that date is uncertain.
