Roger Nores is officially off the hook. The Argentine businessman has been fully cleared of all criminal charges in connection with the death of Liam Payne.

Prosecutors did not appeal the ruling, making the dismissal final. Nores had been accused of abandoning Payne despite allegedly knowing the singer was struggling with addiction.

His attorney Rafael Cúneo Libarona told the New York Post:

“Roger never had the duty of caring for Payne, much less caring for his addictions. He was not Liam’s guarantor. He was his friend, not his physician, nurse, or therapist.” 

Three appeal court judges agreed that Payne was an adult who was free to decide to use drugs, and Nores bore no criminal responsibility.

The investigation is not over, however. Two men accused of supplying Payne with drugs before his death remain under investigation. Restaurant waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz and hotel worker Ezequiel David Pereyra served time in custody but were released in March.

Prosecutors are reportedly discussing a possible plea deal.

Payne died on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires.

A toxicology report revealed alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his system.
