In a raw new revelation, the ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ rapper shared that, at one point, he relied on cocaine as a means to stop himself from taking his own life.

Speaking candidly, Cudi explained how the substance became a coping mechanism during an intense mental health battle – a dangerous crutch that masked deeper pain.

He admitted, in an interview with CBS Mornings:

“That was my life for a while, you know? I was running to the grave, and I had a death wish,”

The GRAMMY winner has long been vocal about his journey through depression and addiction, using his music as an outlet for healing. While he’s since found healthier paths forward, his confession is a sobering reminder of the complex ways people fight to survive.

As he says in part of his memoir:

“After doing more coke than I ever had in my life I was losing all sense of what was real. I’d been alone in my New York apartment, crying for hours, listening to the Lykke Li song ‘Time Flies’ on repeat. It was a love song, but the melodies and her voice filled me with despair. I tried to get up off the bed, but my legs wouldn’t work, so I collapsed to the floor and started to crawl. Eventually, I gave in and just laid on the ground. My heart was racing. It felt like it was going to burst any minute.”

There is a chance to hear more about his past on his upcoming album ‘Free’. It will be released everywhere on August 22, and is comprised of 13 tracks with no features. ‘Grave’ and ‘Neverland’ have been serviced as singles from the record.
