Jesy Nelson has opened up about the harrowing pregnancy experience that made her journey into motherhood fraught with uncertainty.

As reported, the former Little Mix star announced that she and her partner, Zion Foster, were expecting twins.

However, their collective joy turned to collective worry when it emerged that her pregnancy had been deemed high-risk after she was diagnosed with Twin To Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a rare condition that required a mid-term procedure to save the babies’ lives.

Thankfully, the intervention worked, and Nelson gave birth to identical twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, albeit prematurely.

With the siblings home and healthy, Nelson and Foster stopped by ITV’s This Morning to discuss their journey.

Speaking to Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, Nelson shared:

“When we first found out we were having twins, which was just crazy, we were ecstatic, we were over the moon about it.”

Yet, when the diagnosis was delivered, she said her sentiments changed:

“From that point, I couldn’t really enjoy my pregnancy because I was just constantly worried that something was going to happen… We didn’t even want to announce it because I actually had a threatened miscarriage quite early on.”

Continuing, she added:

“When I think back to it now it makes me feel so sad because when you’re pregnant that should be the happiest time of your life, it’s so exciting and we were so scared to announce it in case anything happened… Thank God everything’s gone well but we had no idea that this can happen with twins.

Every time we were going for scans [to monitor her pre-stage TTTS] it was getting a little bit worse, a little bit worse. I still felt like we didn’t think it was gonna happen… I was a bit in denial about it.”

Foster added:

“It felt like overnight it literally went from pre-stage [TTTS] to having the procedure now, and that procedure is not even guaranteed to work, and that was terrifying.”

After the success of the procedure, the couple still had to navigate 10 weeks in the hospital as their babies battled to good health. Uniquely, Nelson’s take was different from what folk may think:

“We lived in a hospital which was a real journey but the staff and the hospital, it was lovely… For me because I was in such a state of fear all the time in my pregnancy I felt safe to be there, I actually didn’t want to go home.”
