Just a week after Tems learned her smash ‘What You Need’ had become her highest-charting solo hit on the Hot 100 to date (overtaking 2022’s ‘Free Mind‘ in the process), the updated edition of the all-genre tally shows the tune has soared even higher – marking a career milestone for the Nigerian superstar in the process.

Tems’ ‘Need’ is found at #39 on the refreshed Hot 100. Here are the numbers that powered the placement.

• Streaming ≈ 4.9 million U.S.-based streams
• Sales ≈ 700 copies sold
• Radio Airplay ≈ 19.1 million audience impressions

Easily the standout single from her 2025-released ‘Love Is a Kingdom‘ EP, ‘Need’ soared into this week’s top 40 for the first time via a flight powered mostly by radio and streams (following her stunning performance of the tune at the 2026 BET Awards in late June).

The ascent marks the first time in Tems’ career she’s occupied space in the Hot 100’s top 40 by her lonesome; she previously enjoyed time at #1 and #9 respectively as assistant on Drake and Future‘s ‘Wait for U’ (2022) as well as Wizkid and Justin Bieber‘s ‘Essence‘ (2021).

As if that’s not enough to celebrate, ‘Need’ also maintained its #2 peak on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart this week.

Should she manage to elevate to its pole position, she will capture her fourth chart-topper on this particular tally following ‘Free Mind,’ ‘Essence’ and ‘Wait for U.’
