According to TMZ, Bell allegedly owes upwards of $50,000.

The child at the center of it lives in Michigan, placing the matter in the hands of the state’s attorney general, even though Bell himself is based in California. He was arrested in Canton, Ohio, where TMZ reported he had been appearing at an autograph signing shortly before officers moved in.

Shaffer painted a picture of a man trying to stay current despite dwindling resources, telling the outlet that Bell had earlier this year emptied his entire $50,000 NFL pension to put toward his child support obligations. The attorney indicated Bell plans to lay out his financial predicament directly to the judge when he gets the chance.

That judge, however, will be weighing his explanation against a backdrop that complicates the picture. As TMZ noted, Bell was hit with a staggering $25 million default judgment last year after he failed to appear in court in connection with a 2024 sexual abuse case, a legal cloud that continues to trail him.
