The world of ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ is making the leap from page to screen, and the first images offer an exciting look at the scale of the Fantasy adventure.

Based on Tomi Adeyemi‘s bestselling novel, the hotly anticipated adaptation brings the mythical kingdom of Orïsha to life with a heavyweight cast.

Gina Prince-Bythewood directs the film from a screenplay she co-wrote with Adeyemi. It is set to arrive in theaters and IMAX on January 15, 2027.

The sprawling ensemble is led by Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, and Tosin Cole. Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Idris Elba, and Viola Davis also star, while Chiwetel Ejiofor and Regina King take on the roles of King Saran and Queen Nehanda.

Ayra Starr is also part of the expansive cast.

Set in the African-inspired Fantasy world of Orïsha, the story follows a young woman fighting to restore the magic that was violently taken from her people. Her journey sees her form an unlikely alliance with the king’s children as they rise against his brutal rule.

The striking first look arrives amid notable tension surrounding the project. Adeyemi recently revealed that she does not intend to watch or promote the finished film, citing painful behind-the-scenes experiences. She also shared messages pointing to a fractured relationship with Stenberg, whom she has blocked.

Despite the off-screen drama, the newly released images offer audiences their clearest glimpse yet at one of 2027’s most ambitious big-screen releases.
