Eddie Murphy has joined yet another iconic franchise. For, the screen titan has revealed that he will be taking on the role of Inspector Clouseau in an upcoming ‘Pink Panther’ movie.

In an interview on ‘Today’ with Al Roker to promote the upcoming movie ‘The Pickup,’ the actor confirmed he’d be playing the Inspector but expressed that he initially wanted to slow down before taking this role, but things happened. He revealed

“I’m getting ready to do a [biopic of] George Clinton, [his music collective] Parliament-Funkadelic. I’m getting ready to do George Clinton. I’ve already started Shrek 5. And I’m going to be — I’m Inspector Clouseau in the next Pink Panther.”

Roker was genuinely shocked by the news and asked the comedian if the ‘Pink Panther’ character would still be himself. Murphy teased a little, but not giving too much away. He quipped:

“Maybe. Well, he has to be French, but he could also be Haitian. I will tell you, he’s Black. He’s Black, for sure.”

Peter Sellers originated the role of Inspector James Clouseau in 1963’s ‘The Pink Panther’. His stint was followed by Alan Arkin, Roger Moore, and, most recently, Steve Martin.

The latter was in the 2006 reboot and sequel in 2009. The character appeared in the animated series featuring the animated Pink Panther.
