Drake is reportedly supporting Bad Bunny. The Canadian rapper is among the artists backing Benito’s attempt to reverse a ruling in a massive copyright lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims the dembow rhythm essential to reggaetón uses elements of Jamaican reggae duo Steely and Clevie‘s tracks without proper credit. The filing originally surfaced in 2021.

A federal judge ruled a jury must decide whether the copyright suit is valid. Bad Bunny wants to overturn that decision.

His lawyer, Kenneth Freundlich, argued there is no single song that uses all of the elements of any of Steely and Clevie’s tracks. He called the plaintiff’s attempts a “Frankenstein” across the three tracks.

Other artists supporting Bad Bunny include Myke Towers, Wisin, Yandel, and De La Ghetto. Drake’s reported support comes as no surprise. The two have collaborated on ‘MIA,’ the ‘Loyal‘ remix, and ‘Gently.’

Steely and Clevie’s attorney, Stephen Doniger, responded in a statement to Billboard. Doniger said:

“It’s disappointing that defendants continue to push their false narrative. Defendants offer nothing new and no basis for reconsideration. We hope the court will quickly deny this motion.”

If the motion to overturn fails, Bad Bunny’s team will likely appeal immediately.
