Denzel Washington has long been one to say his mind, and he is continuing with that practice on the promotional trail for his latest movie, ‘Highest 2 Lowest.’

During a recent interview, the Oscar winner was quizzed about “cancel culture” – and he did not hold back.

Asked by Complex if he ever worries about being “canceled,” the 70-year-old replied:

“What does that mean — to be canceled?”

When the host clarified that “it means you lose public support,” Washington quipped:

“Who cares? What made public support so important to begin with?

Responding to the notion that “followers” are now currency, the screen icon (who notably isn’t on Instagram) said:

“I don’t care who’s following who. You can’t lead and follow at the same time, and you can’t follow and lead at the same time. I don’t follow anybody. I follow the heavenly spirit. I follow God, I don’t follow man. I have faith in God. I have hope in man, but look around, it ain’t working out so well.”

“You can’t be canceled if you haven’t signed up. Don’t sign up.” While laughing and stretching his arms, he told Lee, “Don’t get me started. You know, chest is getting tight talking about it.”

Director Spike Lee, who sat alongside him, agreed and concluded:

“I could care less.”
