The GRAMMY winner wed NBA star Donovan Mitchell on Saturday (August 1), roughly a year after the pair announced their engagement.

Clips from the reception have spread rapidly across social media. In them, the newlyweds share their first dance to Musiq Soulchild’s ‘Love’ while guests look on.

The song choice landed well with R&B fans online, many of whom praised the couple for reaching past the obvious wedding standards.

The Day She Wanted to Keep Private

There is a small irony in how widely the footage travelled. Speaking on the red carpet at this year’s GRAMMYs, Jones described the wedding she was hoping for, and it was not this.

“I hope that it can be really intimate, really special.”

She added at the time that she wanted the day to belong to her rather than to views, clicks, or sales. That the first dance is now everywhere says more about the couple’s reach than their intentions.

The newlyweds met at a networking event for creatives where phones were banned, which forced an in-person introduction. Mitchell had actually messaged her on Instagram years earlier following a Bel-Air collaboration with his shoe line, but the DM went unseen.

Dating rumours surfaced in 2024 before Jones confirmed the relationship on Club Shay Shay. Mitchell proposed in July 2025, soundtracking the announcement clip with her own single ‘You.’

Since then, they have kept things deliberately quiet, surfacing together only occasionally at her shows and his games.

A Career-Defining Year

The wedding caps a significant stretch for Jones, who followed her debut album ‘Why Not More?’ with a Super Bowl performance and two GRAMMY nominations this year.

Mitchell, meanwhile, signed a $273 million extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer that ties him to the franchise through 2031.
