Chris Brown’s $90M Dog Attack Lawsuit: Mistrial Declared Over Juror Misconduct

Party‘ hitmaker Chris Brown has a new reason to celebrate after learning his $90 million dog attack trial has ended in a mistrial.

Full story below.

The civil case, stemming from a December 2020 incident at Brown’s Tarzana home, saw former housekeeper Maria Avila allege she was violently attacked by the singer’s Caucasian Shepherd while taking out the trash.

Avila claims she suffered permanent disfigurement, nerve damage, and vision loss after the dog ripped flesh from her face and arms – an incident she was seeking $90 million in damages to remedy.

The trial began on Monday (June 15), but quickly unraveled. By Wednesday (June 17), Judge Huey P. Cotton declared a mistrial after discovering that one juror had violated court rules.

The judge explained:

“Unfortunately, one of the jurors has violated my admonitions against searching the internet for information, and not only that, but he also shared it, and as a consequence, I have to declare a mistrial.”

Brown had conceded partial responsibility during jury selection but denied the extent of the allegations. He was scheduled to be the first witness, however, he requested a continuance after the mistrial .

Brown briefly commented on the outcome, telling TMZ “itt happens” and calling the $90 million demand “crazy.”
