Chris Brown is fighting back after being ordered to pay almost $13 million over a dog attack that left his former housekeeper with lasting injuries.

The R&B star has formally signaled plans to challenge the blockbuster verdict, claiming the damages were excessive and that problems during the proceedings prevented him from receiving a fair trial.

According to TMZ, Brown and his company, Black Pyramid LLC, filed a notice in Los Angeles on July 31 declaring their intention to request a new trial.

The legal move follows the July 16 entry of judgment against the 37-year-old after a jury found him liable for the December 2020 attack at his Tarzana home.

As previously reported, Maria Avila alleged that she was taking out the trash when Hades, a 200-pound Caucasian Shepherd, mauled her. She said the attack caused severe injuries to her face and arm that required sutures and skin grafts, as well as nerve damage that has affected her ability to work.

Brown’s legal team is expected to cite alleged irregularities in the proceedings, jury misconduct, insufficient evidence and the size of the damages awarded among the grounds for a retrial.

A hearing has been scheduled for September 22, when a judge will consider the arguments and determine whether the verdict should stand.

The latest courtroom chapter arrives while Brown is performing alongside Usher on the pair’s blockbuster ‘The R&B Tour.’ The hearing falls between the trek’s Las Vegas and Los Angeles engagements.
