During a recent X Spaces conversation, the GRAMMY-winning rapper responded to fans comparing clips and behind the scenes footage from the forthcoming visual to her more elaborate past releases including ‘WAP.’

She explained:

“Not everything’s gonna look like that.”

She pointed to permits, security, and the logistics of filming in public as major factors to its whopping $1 million price tag.

The Rap diva also claimed she needed around 40 NYPD officers for the shoot, further expressing frustration with the number of permits required as well as the swarming crowds of fans that made filming even more difficult.

“I will never again do sh*t in public settings.”

However, reports have it New York City officials provide NYPD assistance for permitted film productions at no cost. That would seemingly conflict with Cardi’s account that the police presence contributed directly to the video’s massive budget.

Still, a major production in a public location can rack up a number of other costs including, but not limited to: private security, crew, equipment, location logistics, and more.  Further, managing large crowds can quickly turn an ambitious concept into an expensive undertaking.

Cardi’s frustration also is seemingly only rivaled by the high expectation of her beloved fans’ (affectionately called the #BardiGang). And while ‘WAP’ set a particularly high bar with its colorful sets and elaborate production, Cardi’s been vocal that recreating that scale every time isn’t necessarily the goal.

After the headaches surrounding ‘AH HA,’ she may keep future video shoots away from crowded NYC streets.
