Andrew Gillum is facing new legal trouble after being arrested in Alabama on drug-related charges.

The former Florida gubernatorial candidate and ex-mayor of Tallahassee was taken into custody by officers from the Daphne Police Department on July 2, according to Baldwin County jail records cited in multiple reports.

The arrest marks the latest public development involving Gillum, whose past controversies have previously made headlines, including a 2020 Miami hotel incident that later saw him announce a rehab stint.

Per jail records, Gillum, 46, was arrested at 10:44 p.m. CDT and booked on July 3. The listed charges include possession of dangerous drugs, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

He was released from jail the same day.

AP News reports that police said Gillum was pulled over in Daphne, Alabama, after alleged erratic driving. Authorities said a search of the vehicle followed after an officer noticed a glass pipe on the center console.

Gillum rose to national prominence during Florida’s 2018 governor’s race, which he lost to Ron DeSantis by fewer than 34,000 votes. Prior to that, he served as mayor of Tallahassee from 2014 to 2018.

In 2020, police in Miami Beach said Gillum was found inebriated in a hotel room following a reported drug-related incident. He was not charged at the time, but later stepped back from public life and opened up about treatment, recovery, and his personal life, including publicly sharing that he is bisexual.

In 2022, Gillum was indicted in a federal fraud case tied to campaign funds. A jury later found him not guilty of lying to the FBI, and prosecutors ultimately dropped the remaining charges.

Suffice it to say, with the latest drama, the 46-year-old seems to be somewhat of a scandal magnet.

As of writing, Gillum has not publicly addressed the latest arrest.
