‘A different bond’: 21 Savage opens up on how raising his daughter with Latto differs from his early days as a dad

The Atlanta rappers welcomed a baby girl earlier this year and the couple made their first confirmed appearances as a couple while the “Big Mama” rapper was pregnant.
21 Savage can attest to one thing about becoming a father for the fourth time: he’s grown.
In a sit-down conversation with actor and comedian Pete Davidson for “The Pete Davidson Show,” the Atlanta rapper opened up about the changes he’s seen in himself since he and Latto welcomed their baby girl earlier this year, and how they compare to when he became a dad to his first three children.
“My first three, I was younger, running around in the street, it was different,” Savage told Davidson. “Now I’m in the house. I have the baby all night, making her bottles, changing her diapers. So it’s a different bond type sh-t. As I got older, I developed that bond better with my other kids, like I was around day one, but I wasn’t as attentive.”
The 33-year-old Savage had his first child around age 19 or 20, but his focus at the time was making it as a rapper. Being established and financially stable has altered his viewpoint a bit about being there for his kids, because the effort to reach a certain point in his personal life has been made.
“I’m glad I did both, though,” Savage said in relation to having his previous children at a younger age. “I wouldn’t want to be … how can I put it? I feel like having my kids early motivated me to go get it. To be ambitious. So now I’m glad I had kids then and got to experience both ways of parenting.”
According to Cosmopolitan, the Atlanta rappers have been together since 2020, keeping a relatively low profile and doing their best to avoid tabloid speculation until the “Big Mama” artist confirmed she was pregnant with their first child together. Still, the signs were there, from matching tattoos and vacation photos and now, parenthood.
“I feel like once you start reaching different milestones in life, you can only be so private,” she told “The Breakfast Club” in an interview to promote her new album. “I got a baby. I can only be so private.”
